Betrayed!

Can I just say how devastating it is knowing that my 3 best friends and their husbands are not supportive of my favorite team's bid for the National Championship. ugh. It just gives me a sick feeling in my stomach. I mean how could you not support the Gators when you know I am so passionate about them. I feel so betrayed by all of you. You should be ashamed. All of you. You know who you are.

We are going to kick Oklahoma's ass! So there, Seriously. :) (Smiley face in case you did take me seriously. )

I love you dearly BUT...

After winning this year's Sugar Bowl in decisive fashion by crushing 4th ranked (and formerly #1 Alabama of the SEC) 31-17, The Utah Utes completed a perfect 13-0 season securing the (Real) National Championship! As Mountain West Conference Commissioner Craig Thompson said: "You can't do any better than being 13-0 and winning a BCS game." No, you cannot sir. And for that reason, the UTES are the (Real) National Champions!

Congratulations also goes to the following teams who had fine (though not National Championship calibre) seasons:

The Florida Gators - Nice win over an over-rated Oklahoma team. It wasn't pretty, but it was effective. And the defense did make two great goal line stands. And of course the astronomically hyped Gino Torretta - whoops, I mean Tim Tebow - did carry the load in the end. Unfortunately, we are all left wondering if you could have done that to Utah ... or Texas ... or USC ... or Ole Miss. So with that one abysmal loss on your record, you are a very commendable #2.

The USC Trojans - Yes, this team would almost certainly have beaten either of the contenders in the FedEX One-loss Runner-up Bowl, but we'll never know for sure, will we? And in spite of your dominance and near-championship performance in the Rose Bowl vs. an overwhelmed Penn State, you are #3. (Speaking of the Big Ten ... can we now finally remove them from the list of BCS conferences?)

The Texas Longhorns - I may be mistaken, but didn't you guys beat Oklahoma by double digits already this year? Surely that should have been enough to get you the Sooners' spot as sacrificial lambs in the Runner-up bowl, no? But alas, with no equitable playoff system, you are relegated to #4. Get some foam fingers to hold up next season ... "we're #4!" Or, maybe not.

All this is to say (joining the groundswell of popular support for this) that we need a PLAYOFF SYSTEM to determine the REAL NATIONAL CHAMPION.
